Assignment

In the spring of 2024, Western Digital/ SanDisk had the opportunity to refresh their displays in all Micro Center Stores. They sell products in five different areas within the store and have a large family of SKUs in the memory category. The objective was to design, engineer, and manufacture a series of displays that shared a consistent brand identity across all categories. Four of the displays would be full endcaps and one would be a graphic and product refresh to an existing metal display.

They asked us to collaborate on a full retail audit of the existing environment. This included evaluating measurements, photos, and reviews of all products that surround the clients’ SKUs. This research enabled us to create displays that are attractive, clean, and concise in explaining each SKU’s capabilities. Given the number of stores, our goal was to create one display body that was modular enough to hold dummy units for all SKUs to achieve brand consistency, while also minimizing costs. After a kickoff call, we hosted creative meetings, presented multiple concepts, and worked with Western Digital and San Disk to create a design that excited all parties. The final concept included the following features:

  • Product display on the top shelf
  • White shelf liners
  • Headers
  • Wallpaper (to cover the back of the gondola)
  • Blade signs on both sides

Results

We also manufactured magnetic graphics, product glorifiers, and Lazy Susans that are easy and affordable to swap for future graphic and product updates.
